Holiday Activity and Food Programme FAQs

What
The Holiday Activity and Food Programme has been operating since 2018. It is a government-funded initiative that provides children who are Free School Meals (FSM) eligible, the opportunity to participate in physical activity throughout the school holidays.
At Moving Matters, we will be assigning 50 places at our Summer Camp for attendees to take part in a high-quality multi-sports camp ran by experienced, qualified, DBS-checked Coaches.
The aims of this programme are for participants to:
-
eat healthily over the school holidays
-
be active during the school holidays
-
take part in engaging and enriching activities which support the development of resilience, character and wellbeing along with their wider educational attainment
-
be safe and not to be socially isolated
-
have a greater knowledge of health and nutrition
- be more engaged with school and other local services
- a free meal
- free sports provision
- nutrition workshops
Who
To be eligible to attend, children must:
- Be in receipt of Free School Meals (or qualified to do so)
- Be between the academic years 1 and 8
Why
The HAF programme aims to alleviate the “holiday experience gap” which suggests children from a lower socioeconomic background are:
- less likely to access organised out-of-school activities
- more likely to experience ‘unhealthy holidays’ in terms of nutrition and physical health
- more likely to experience social isolation
At Moving Matters, our mission is to provide children with positive, active, learning experiences, to inspire a lifelong commitment to sport and physical activity. In order to do this, active childcare provision should be accessible to everyone, no matter what their background is.
When
Our HAF Holiday Camp will take place during the Easter Holiday Period
Tuesday 11th April – Friday 14th April
Attending children should be dropped off by 9am and be ready to picked up by 1:30pm, as their lunchtime will be at 12pm.
Children are able to attend every day on a first come first serve basis.
