In the highly anticipated Women’s FA Cup final, Chelsea and Manchester United showcased their prowess in an exhilarating match. The atmosphere was electric, with a record-breaking 77,390 attendance witnessing the game in-person, symbolising the increasing popularity and awareness surrounding women’s football.
The clash between Chelsea and Manchester United was a spectacle of skill, determination, and passion. Both teams displayed their tactical brilliance and fought relentlessly for the coveted trophy. Despite there being a solo goal, scored by Chelsea’s forward Sam Kerr, it was still a back and forth match that is worth the rewatch.
Off the pitch, the highest attendance for a women’s football match was achieved, underscoring the immense interest and support for the sport. The historic Wembley crowd demonstrated the rising momentum and recognition that women’s football has garnered in recent years. |

This significant turnout signifies the growing appetite for women’s sporting events and the strides made in promoting gender equality in football.
A few weeks ago we spoke about the increase in girls’ attendance at our Soccer School sessions, and from next academic year, we will begin our process to becoming a Weetabix Wildcats provider. The Wildcat programme highlights a much easier way for girls aged 5-11 to get involved in grassroots football, something that is usually difficult and frowned upon. |

National School Sport Week |
|
19th and 25th June 2023 |
|

|
The main goal of National School Sport Week is to highlight how important school sport is for children’s mental and physical health. By organising school events such as sports days or tournaments, you’re showing children all the great benefits to taking part in sport. Whether this is getting to play alongside or with their peers, developing their motor skills, or increasing their confidence – National School Sport Week is beneficial for lots of children.
At Moving Matters we have been participating in this week annually with our member schools, by collating a range of fun and fulfilling activities for students to take part in during their PE lessons. It’s great that this is a week in the Summer term too as it fits perfectly into our Summer Sports programmes (and the weather is usually great too).
We will be announcing our week of activities over the next few weeks so be sure to follow our social platforms. |

Aspire ConferenceFriday 19th May – Villa Park, Birmingham |
|
Today I’m at the Aspire Active Partnership conference, this twice annual event is a great opportunity to work ON not IN the business.
I’m here today with Ash, following my trip to Birmingham yesterday to partake in a steering group meeting, focused on guiding and supporting the network going forward.
The conference always covers a rich range of areas, things which can be taken back to improve the way that we run or the services we offer to schools/parents. |

|
It is also a great opportunity to connect with our partners from across the network, meet lots of new people and catch up with friends from across the country.
The vision for the partnership is something we continue to believe and invest our time in…
“We believe that collaboration in our sector will benefit business growth and help more children to be more active, more often.”
It is our relationship with Aspire and others, we feel, differentiates the quality of our business and our offer from other sports coaching providers. |

Summer Term Curriculum – Summer Sports |
|
In the theme of Summer Sports our curriculum feature for this week is an insight into the importance of sports day programmes and fostering a healthy lifestyle among young children.
The video below shows one of our running challenges which looks at testing your stamina at the beginning of the PE lesson with a shuttle run. This is perfect practice for some of the longer distance running events at the athletics competitions and sports days taking place in the Summer term. |

The lesson plan below focuses on introducing children to the concept of long-distance running and developing their endurance and perseverance. It addresses form, different activities to take part in and a warm up/cool down to ensure a gradual build-up and wind-down for the session. The session concludes with a brief reflection on the children’s accomplishments, reinforcing the values of discipline, determination, and teamwork. |
