PE and Sport Premium Announcement

We are delighted to announce that this Wednesday, the government announced the continuation of the PE and Sport premium for the next two academic years.

Historically this decision has been held off until late into the summer term, so it’s fantastic that schools now have the time to effectively plan how they will best utilise the funding, not just for next but also the following academic year.

The full package being announced today includes:

  • Over £600 million across the next two academic years (2023-24 & 2024-25) for the continuation of the Primary PE and Sport Premium – a funding commitment to improve the quality of PE and sports in primary schools to help children benefit from regular activity

  • Schools to deliver a minimum 2 hours of curriculum PE – with more support being offered through a refreshed School Sport Action Plan

  • £22 million for two years of further funding for the School Games Organiser network (SGO) – Annually the 450 strong SGO workforce supports 2.2m participation opportunities for children including 28,000 competitive school sport events

  • Equal access to sports in school – setting out that offering girls and boys the same sports, where it is wanted is the new standard

  • Up to £57 million funding for the ‘Open Sports Facilities’ programme – to open up more school sport facilities outside of school hours especially targeted at girls, disadvantaged pupils and pupils with special educational needs

  • A new digital reporting tool for Primary PE and Sport Premium – to support schools in using the funding to the best advantage of their pupils

Here is the full detail from the AfPE website:

We believe that access to quality physical education, activity and sport is essential for the overall development of students and we’re committed to supporting primary schools in achieving this goal.

We encourage all schools to take advantage of this funding, plan effectively and work towards creating a healthier and more active generation.

International Women’s Day 2023

Wednesday March 8th, 2023

On International Women’s Day, we took a moment to express our gratitude and appreciation for the women who work tirelessly as part of our team.

Their contributions and dedication to the workplace will never go unnoticed, and we are grateful for the unique perspectives and insights that they bring to Moving Matters. Your hard work, expertise, and creativity have helped us to achieve our goals and strive towards greater success.

We acknowledge and appreciate the barriers that women have faced historically in the workplace, and we remain committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone can thrive.

Thank you for your valuable contributions, and we look forward to continuing to work together to achieve our shared goals.

YST PE Conference Blog

Last Thursday, after thirteen years since my last visit to Telford, I went to the Youth Sport
Trust conference. The focus for the conference was mental health and lots of reflections on the positive
impact PE, sport and physical activity can have on it. It was a fantastic conference, with so
many take aways and I’ll definitely be back next year.

Competitions Update

Year 5 & 6 Netball @ Kennington Park

Thursday March 9th March 30th

Due to unforeseen weather conditions, the highly anticipated Netball competition that was scheduled for yesterday has unfortunately been rescheduled to the 30th March. Competitions Lead George has been monitoring the forecast and has determined that the weather predicted would create unsafe conditions for both the competitors and attendees.

The decision to cancel the competition was not taken lightly, but we felt it was necessary to prioritise the safety of all participants. Hopefully we get some great weather at the end of the month.

Year 4 & 5 Handball @ Elmgreen School (7 Spaces Remaining)

Thursday March 23rd

On a better note, next Thursday we will be hosting our handball competition at Elmgreen School. It is a fast-paced and fun sport that requires skill, speed, and agility. The objective of the game is to throw the ball into the opposing team’s goal while preventing them from doing the same. We currently have spaces for 7 more schools so be sure to book in using the competitions form.

Upcoming Easter Holiday Camp

April Monday 3rd – Thursday 6th

Tuesday 11th – Friday 14th

Spring is here and Easter is just around the corner, which means it’s time for our exciting Easter Holiday Camp!

Our camps offers a unique opportunity for children to stay active and have fun during the holiday break. Our experienced coaches will lead a variety of sports and activities, including soccer, basketball, tennis, and more, to keep participants engaged and entertained. In addition to sports, our program will also include arts and crafts, team-building exercises, and other fun activities that will promote creativity, social skills, and leadership.

Our goal is to provide a safe and inclusive environment where participants can make new friends, learn new skills, and most importantly, have fun!

Last year we had over 500 Easter camp bookings over the two weeks so hopefully we smash that record for the second consecutive year.

We encourage all parents and guardians to sign up their children for our Easter Sports Holiday Camp, and we look forward to an exciting and memorable camp full of sports and activities.

Ofsted Approved Childcare

Did you know?

Only Ofsted approved sites should be providing childcare services to children across the country, it is a standard of provision that all should be adhering too.

Our site at The Elmgreen school has been Ofsted approved for over ten years and recently passed compliance. Our registration also enables parents to use childcare vouchers to pay for the provision at camp.

Our URN is 2644464

To accommodate a greater age range of children, we have recently applied to look after early years children for a full day at camp (previously just 3hours and 59 minutes). We hope to announce our new Ofsted status for the forthcoming Easter or Mid-Summer camps.

Moving Matters Soccer School

Our MMSS attendance numbers are slowly creeping back up to their peak and we are in the midst of rolling out a great marketing campaign, with the hopes of opening up at a new location.

Our program is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to improve their skills and knowledge of the game in a fun and engaging environment. The sessions are led by experienced coaches who will provide expert guidance and feedback to help players develop their technique, tactical awareness, and fitness.

Whether you are a beginner looking to learn the basics or an experienced player seeking to take your game to the next level, our Soccer School is suitable for all skill levels. In addition to training, our program also includes team-building exercises that will help participants develop their social skills and teamwork abilities. We look forward to welcoming all new or returning participants in the next few weeks as the weather gets better.
