International Women’s Day 2024

On International Women's Day, we take a moment to express our gratitude and appreciation for the women who work tirelessly as part of our team, the women who work in the schools that we work with and the women around the world who continue to inspire.

Their contributions and dedication to the workplace will never go unnoticed, and we are grateful for the unique perspectives and insights that they bring to Moving Matters. Your hard work, expertise, and creativity have helped us to achieve our goals and strive towards greater success.

We acknowledge and appreciate the barriers that women have faced historically in the workplace, and we remain committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone can thrive.

Competitions Recap -

Year 5 & 6 Netball

March 7th 2024

Yesterday we welcomed 14 schools and 18 teams to the Moving Matters’ Netball tourney at Kennington park. Last year’s event was a wet and miserable affair but despite the cold weather, this year’s one was far more successful.

The overall standard of Netball played was incredibly impressive and all participants improved through the course of the day.

The tournament was structured around 3 groups of 6 teams, with the top team from each group advancing to the semi-finals, along with the next best second placed team.

After 15 group games the teams to advance to the semi-finals were, Granton A and B, Julians C and Clapham Manor A.

Julians’ all girl team put in a masterful performance in their semi, to beat Granton A in a comprehensive 7 - 2 victory with the other Granton team triumphing against Clapham Manor.

The quality of the final was exceptional with both Granton and Julians playing at a frenetic pace with the game producing chances for both teams. Granton took an early lead and then added to it before a goal before half time brought Julians back into the match.

In the second half, Granton exerted their physical dominance by taking another chance and managing the game out to a 3-1 victory.

Congratulations to Hanna Septa and her team and commiserations to Matt, who’s Julians team lost their second Netball final in two weeks.

Clapham Manor claimed third spot with a 3-2 victory in the third place play off.

At the end of the event we awarded two MVP awards (Most Valuable Player) to players from Clapham Manor and Granton’s victorious B team, well done to both those girls.

Thanks to all for coming, it was a really great day and saw us introduce a brand new app for managing the fixtures at the event.

Hope to see you at Futsal.

Subject Leader Workshop

This week I hosted a Primary PE Subject Leader workshop, inviting PE leads across our member schools. In my experience (over 17 years) PE leads have little or no training or guidance on how to manage the subject, so they need the support.

At the workshop we explored the following areas:

  • Activity levels in young people

  • PE and Sports premium funding

  • The three Is for Osted (Intent, Implementation, Impact)

  • Raising standards in PE

  • The role of the subject lead

  • The importance of collaboration

Real pleasure to work with the teachers who attended and always nice to receive positive feedback post event.

“Thank you for yesterday's presentation, it was really informative.”

“Thanks a lot for this and yesterday. I found it really helpful and a good reminder of the bigger picture!”

Moving Matters Soccer School

Including our Talent ID players, we had over 200 children attend our sessions combined over the last two weeks which is a testament to how great these last few months have been at the Soccer School. As the weather gets better (hopefully), we are optimistic about continuing to raise these numbers and the profile of MMSS.
