Activity 1: Shotput. Mark out a clear starting point and use a small object (a coin, a shoe etc) to mark where your throw first lands on the ground. Using the diagram below, practise your shotput technique. This activity would be done best with a tennis ball, a cricket ball or even an orange!

Things to think about:

Remember, your arm must be straight when you throw! Can you beat your best throw? Can you compete against someone else in your house?

Activity 2: Javelin. Using the same starting point and markets and a stick or a broom handle, practise throwing the javelin with the technique above. Can you hrow the object flat through the air? Can you throw it without it rotating? For this activity, MAKE SURE YOU ASK AN ADULT TO SUPERVISE YOU TO ENSURE IT IS DONE SAFELY.

Extend: Can you try using a football or a basketball to shotput? How far can you throw from a seated position?

Support: Younger children could try using a pair of balled up socks.

Daily challenege: can you beat your best throw 3 times in one day?
