Marathon Ready!

69 training runs. Nearly 600 miles travelled. Nearly £2,000 raised for Movember UK.

My final run today and after 18 long weeks of training, race day is nearly here. I have always had the ambition to run the London Marathon and the excitement is outweighing the anxiety as I sit here now.

Working towards this goal has been a great physical challenge and focus, something I am mindful of continuing beyond Sunday’s event. A target we set our team at Moving Matters is to stretch and challenge themselves to be better and improve themselves. It’s something we push children to strive for in PE lessons, in clubs, at soccer school, camp and at our competitions.

I set myself an ambitious target for my first marathon and we’ll have to see how things go on race day but I’ve endeavoured to do as much as I can to get me to the start line with the best chance possible. That’s all you can do right!

Finally, I’m delighted to have raised money for such a good cause, men’s mental health is as important now as it’s ever been and I’m happy to have contributed to the cause.

If you’re feeling generous, I’m slightly short of £2k, so a few more donations would get me over the line. Many thanks to anyone who does.

If anyone reading this is running, all the very best for Sunday.

Carpe Diem

Staff Training Day

We place huge value at Moving Matters on staff CPD, to ensure we continue to drive high professional standards and develop our workforce. This is why we start each full term with staff training.

Our summer sports training focuses on Tennis, Cricket and Athletics, major components of the curriculum delivered over the next 3 months. Unfortunately the summer weather didn’t read the memo on Monday and high winds and rain forced training into the classroom!

Senior leaders, Ash, Matt and Tom lead workshops, utilising the great Moving Matters’ YouTube resources to focus on skill development and examples of practice.

You can find examples below:

Differentiation Blog

Our Operations Manager Ashley recently wrote a piece about leading with differentiation in the planning and implementation of lessons.

“Are you providing all students with the same chance to excel in PE? If you hesitate to answer yes, it’s crucial to reflect on your teaching methods.

As educators, it falls upon us to ensure that our lessons are inclusive and cater to the diverse needs of our students. Therefore, it is imperative that our teaching strategies embrace differentiation.

Differentiation, defined as ‘the tailoring of instruction to meet the differing capabilities of individuals or groups of pupils,’ is pivotal in extending the learning of all students.”

Easter Holiday Camp Programme

Over the 9 days during the Easter Holiday, we had over 650 attendees across our 6 camps:

- Elmgreen Multi-Sports

- Elmgreen Football Camp

- Elmgreen HAF Camp

- Immanuel & St Andrew Multi-Sports

- Archbishop Lanfranc HAF Camp

- Archbishop Lanfranc Football Camp

With such a busy schedule, we provided over 275,000 minutes of physical activity to young children in South London during the last 2 weeks, something we are extremely proud of.

Our vision has always been to help create a healthier society for future generations and being able to get so many children up and moving outside of term-time is very encouraging.

We released two newsletters over the two weeks which you can read here:

Moving Matters Soccer School

Being a Wildcats provider, we were fortunate enough to have the FA send us some complimentary tickets to the England vs Sweden game at Wembley earlier in the month. We were able to send some of our girls to the game and they loved it!

This is another reason as to how amazing this Wildcats programme has been at Moving Matters, with parents and children giving rave reviews about the enjoyment of their sessions.

As the weather gets better (hopefully) for the summer term, all of our sessions are now bookable for the rest of the academic year.

We also captured a photo during our Football Camp of our branded training jumpers which look really good!

We’ve also had a really good start to our Moving Matters FC programme with Coach Ellis leading our U8 team to some great results recently.

We are aiming to start new teams for the 2024-25 season and so if interested in playing grassroots football with Moving Matters, register your interest below.

Any questions you can email our Director of Football, Stan on or call our office 02083254544.
